The Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) is a network of internet-connected sensors, instruments, computers, and applications that gather and share data with one another. This connectivity allows smart (i.e., internet-connected) machines to collect, exchange, utilize, and analyze real-time data, something that is well beyond the capabilities of human users and dumb (i.e., non-internet-connected) machines. Data monitored and tracked by the IIOT is used to make industrial processes more reliable and efficient.
