The International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) is a set of United States government regulations that control the export – and in some cases, the re-export or temporary import – of defense-related articles and services on the U.S. Munitions list (USML). Enforced by the U.S. Department of State, ITAR restricts access to physical items and technical data related to defense and military technologies to authorized US citizens only. These regulations are codified in Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 120-130.
In the context of maintenance management, ITAR may apply if your organization performs maintenance on defense-related assets or handles technical data, such as engineering drawings, repair manuals, CAD files, or product specifications for defense systems.
