ISA84 is a safety standard developed by the International Society of Automation (ISA) that establishes requirements for the lifecycle management of safety instrumented systems (SIS) used in process industries in the United States. The standard outlines how each SIS must be assessed, designed, engineered, verified, installed, operated, maintained, and continuously improved to ensure functional safety. ISA84 mirrors the IEC 61511 standard but also includes legacy systems that were in use prior to the development of the standard.
