NFPA 70E is a standard developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that establishes electrical safety practices in the workplace to protect personnel against major electrical hazards. Originally developed at the request of the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the standard addresses hazards associated with electrical energy – such as shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast – during the installation, operation, maintenance, and demolition of electrical equipment and systems.

Although NFPA 70E is not a regulation itself, OSHA frequently references it as a recognized industry practice for meeting the requirements of the General Duty Clause, and is widely regarded as the leading standard for electrical safety in the workplace.
